Officers Attacked and Injured by Inmates at Elmira Correctional Facility


ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – In response to a press launch from the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Affiliation, two inmates attacked officers in separate medical emergencies after the officers responded to assist the inmates inside their cells on the maximum-security jail.    

On Thursday, January 21, an officer on rounds observed an inmate inside his cell unresponsive from an obvious drug overdose.  The officer entered the cell and administered Narcan.  Initially the Narcan didn’t work.  It was administered three extra occasions by workers earlier than the inmate started respiration on his personal. 

The inmate was transported to a neighborhood hospital for additional therapy.  Previous to being launched from the hospital, the inmate started being disruptive.  Contained in the hospital room the inmate head-butted an officer who tried to show off an alarm the inmate set off.  He started combating with officers as they tried to subdue him.  It took a number of officers to get him beneath management and into handcuffs.  He continued to be combative as he was transported again to the ability.
